Looks like the bollywood audiences’ obsession and liking for Sholay hasn’t gone down at all even after it has been nearly 40 years that the movie was released and has been played a number of times on the TV. Sholay 3D, the 3D version of the legendary Sholay which hit the screens last week is still doing wonders at the box office and even beat Mr.Joe B Carvalho which was released along with it, in its collections..!
Here’s what the COO of PVR cinemas Gautam Dutta had to say about the unexpected turn out of people at the theatres to watch Sholay 3D.., “The response to ‘Sholay 3D’ was alright. The occupancy was between 60 percent and 70 percent. There were people who turned up with their families and got nostalgic. They were happy to see it in 3D format.”
Sholay 3D was produced by Sascha Sippy, who incidentally is the grandson of G.P.Sippy who produced the original. It cost them 20 crores for the restoration and conversion to 3D and in the first week, the collections from all over India summed up to a 4.25 crores.
And as for Mr.Joe B Carvalho, the movie managed to bag collections of about 2 crores and not more than that although it was released in nearly 1100 screens.
