Shollaaay! There are so many fond memories associated with this film that coming rushing to our head when we hear this. The film was legendary in every part and also made the entire star cast legends in their own leagues. Sholay is a 1975 action-adventure film directed by Ramesh Sippy and produced by his father G.P. Sippy. As many may say, it is not merely a film but a classic and one of the best Indian films ever. The face of Hindi cinema in many ways.
The film follows two criminals, Veeru and Jai, played by Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan, hired by a retired police officer, Sanjeev Kumar, to capture the ruthless dacoit Gabbar Singh played by Amjad Khan. Hema Malini and Jaya Bhaduri also star, as Veeru and Jai’s love interests respectively.
The film was shot in the rocky terrain of Ramanagara, in Karnataka, over a span of two and a half years. When first released, Sholay received negative critical reviews and a tepid commercial response, but favorable word-of-mouth publicity helped it to become a box office success. It broke records for continuous showings in many theaters across India, and ran for more than five years at Mumbai’s Minerva theater.
When a film like this is being redirected in 3D, there is bound to be a lot of noise. While many may object for tampering with a classic like Sholay, there are many who are curious o know what will exactly come out of it. Sholay 3D sounds very interesting! The film is a complete entertainer. Action, violence, drama, romance, dance and music, it has all the ingredients that can make it a block buster. So when there’ll be extra sound and visual effects there is bound to be fireworks!
We just hope that they don’t try too hard that everything falls apart!
