Imtiaz Ali: I won’t produce any movie after Highway

Imtiaz Ali, the director of highly successful movies like Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kal, Rockstar, etc turned a producer for the first time with the upcoming film Highway.

When asked what prompted him to become a producer, he said “I felt that I had to produce this film because it needed to be made with care. It cannot be an assembly line kind of a thing…it needed to be more hand-made just like a kitchen workshop situation. So, I thought I should produce it as it needed delicate handling.”

“It empowers you but you need to do it responsibly. It’s like a medicine which can turn into a poison if you have it too much. It empowers you to make the movies the way you want. I am not going to produce another movie. The next that I am doing with Sajid Nadiadwala I will be just directing it,” he added.

Highway, which is releasing on 21st February 2014, has music composed by the Oscar-winning maestro A.R. Rahman. Rahman, who was busy with many projects whilst working on this, said “I was busy with many projects when Imtiaz asked me if I could work on the music for Highway. I told him I didn’t have the time but I could make time for it. We’d really enjoyed working on Rockstar and I knew this journey should continue with Highway.”

Friendships do go a long way in B-Town.
