In the recent Google India annual Zeitgeist list of 2013, surprisingly this year, Sunny Leone was the most searched celebrity beating even the most popular bollywood stars like Shah Rukh Khan and all the other actresses like Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone.
Even the legendary cricket star, Sachin Tendulkar who got retired this year could not come anywhere near Sunny Leone in the most searched celebrities list. Shah Rukh Khan was the fifth searched by the Indians and after that came Honey Singh, Kajal Aggarwal, Kareena Kapoor, Sachin Tendulkar and Poonam Pandey.
Among the bollywood hits that were most searched, Chennai Express topped the list with Aashiqui 2 and IPL 2013 being searched for, closely after that. Narendra Modi was the most searched leader this year not very surprisingly. Also, a lot of people searched for bars, restaurants and movie tickets in theatres close by from their mobile phones this year.
When it came to travel, people searched a lot more for exotic locations like Mauritius, Maldives and Macau than the regular tourist destinations like Singapore, Dubai and Amsterdam.
Rajan Anandan, MD at Google India spoke about the searching trends saying, “From a search trends perspective, 2013 was clearly the year of entertainment. Online shopping, banking and e-commerce also continued their upward trend – a clear testimony to Indians embracing online transactions.”
