Arshad Warsi was offered Grand Masti, but said ‘No’!

The current situation in Arshad Warsi’s life is quite ironical to say the least. While at one side he is busy promoting his upcoming comedy movie ‘Mr Joe B Carvalho’ which is directed bu Samir Tiwari, on the other side, the situation at his home is very different and far from frunny. He is taking care of his sick pet, looking after his indisposed mother-in-law and babysitting his two kids Zeke and Zeneas his wide Maria Goretti is in Agra for some writing work.

Arshad has two releases lined up in January, Mr Joe B Carvalho which features Soha Ali Khan and Jaaved Jaaferi holds a special place in his heart as it’s the kind of film he has always wanted to do. The actor, who has been successful in various types of comedy like the Munna Bhai franchise, Dhamaal, Golmaal and recently Jolly LLB, calls his latest film “a modern-day Angoor.”

Arshad says, “It’s a very clean film with very innocent characters. It has stupid situations and stupid lines said with a very straight face. If people digest it, we will take it to the next level.”

The actor adds, “Writing clean comedies is a challenge, whereas writing crass comes easy. You need an intelligent mind to write Hrishikesh Mukherjee kind of films. We are getting dirtier and dirtier with each passing day.”

Arshad also recalls how he told filmmaker Indra Kumar that he cannot do the Grand Masti genre, even though he knows that such films work very well at the box office. “I told him to please count me out of Grand Masti because, somewhere down the line, I do not want my kids to see me in sex comedies.”

Mr Joe B Carvalho, a BR Entertainment Film, releases January 3, 2014.
