Though Shahid Kapoor has done some 20 odd films, only some of them have been successful; like Vivah, Ishq Vishk, Jab We Met and Kaminey are his hit films. He is appreciated for his acting skills and dancing skills but he feels that in Bollywood, success is measured in terms of how successful one’s films are.
Ahead of his next release R… Rajkumar, Shahid Kapoor says “Eventually, the most important thing is success. I want to achieve a lot of success. It doesn’t feel good when your film doesn’t do well and yet you are appreciated… everybody should succeed.”
“I agree when others say I am underrated as an actor…When you give super-hit films then only you are considered as a good actor. At least that is how it is there in our industry. I think you need to be successful to be appreciated,” Shahid added.
His last movie Phata Poster Nikhla Hero didn’t succeed at the box office; commenting on it, the 32 year old actor said “I think people felt that the second half (of the film) turned serious. They really liked and enjoyed the humour in the first half (of the film). In the second half the film became serious though people were looking for humour… It was a major issue.”
Talking about R… Rajkumar and the director Prabhu Deva, Shahid said “I love action genre. Every guy dreams of beating up several men in one go. Prabhudeva has always presented action in his films in a stylised manner. He does not have people and bikes flying or super heroes. He has normal action in his films but shoots in a stylised manner, larger than life way and it looks good.”
The movie has some crazy kick ass punch lines like Pyaar pyaar pyaar ya maar maar maar, Silent ho ja varna main violent ho jaoonga, Mere muhn mat lagna main sehat ke liye hanikarak hoon, Main paise ke liye kuch bhi kar sakta hoon toh soch main apne pyaar ke liye kya kya karoonga, written by Shiraz Ahmed.
When asked about this, the director Prabhu Deva said “My films are entertainers, so masala dialogues are a must.”
R… Rajkumar releases tomorrow. After this, Shahid Kapoor has hopes pinned on his next film Haider, which is helmed by Vishal Bharadwaj.
