The epic 1975 movie Sholay, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini and Amjad Khan; was scheduled to be re-released in a 3D format on January 3rd 2014 but the director of the film, Ramesh Sippy filed a petition against Pen India Pvt Ltd; the media house which is re-releasing the movie.
Sippy’s petition was filed when Pen India acquired the rights of the film from Media and Entertainment who were initially given the rights by Sippy Films via the validity of two agreements – the Deed of Gift of September 14, 2000 and an agreement of July 20, 2011. Apart from this Sippy had also filed a plea for interim relief seeking a temporary injunction against Sholay, Media and Entertainment, Generation Three Entertainment, Pen Media and Jayantilal Gada from dealing in any manner whatsoever with Sholay.
The Bombay High Court rejected Sippy’s petition and cleared the release of the film. The film will now be released in January 2014 as planned earlier.
