Amitabh Bachchan, talking at the Penguin Annual Lecture 2013 about his autobiography ‘In the Afternoon of Time: An Autobiography’, said he would like to play the role of his father if ever a movie is made based on the book. This was in response to a question by a fan present at the event.
“Maybe I’d like to play the role that my father played in his autobiography,” said Bachchan.
The surprised host, Rajdeep Sardesai, probed him asking if he really wants to attempt something like that and to this, It’s a tough call, but I want to try,” was Big B’s reply.
Harivansh Rai Bachchan was a renowned poet, notable for his timeless poems like Madhushala, Madhukalash, Madhubala and Agneepath; had once said Amitabh was his greatest poetry. This was one of the many anecdotes Big B shared about his father at the event.
Laughing it about the fact that he was his father’s greatest poetry, the veteran actor said “I do not know whether I am a free verse or a couplet, a chaupai or a shloka. I wish I had asked. Now it is too late.”
He concluded the event by reciting some of his father’s poems; at the request of the audiences present.
