We are all familiar with the character of Dr. J. C. Asthana. Boman Irani’s impression of a hypertensive doctor in Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. left us wanting for more. When we first saw him in Munna Bhai M. B. B. S., we were so pleased, it was like a breath of fresh air.
Even though Munna Bhai wasn’t his first movie, we can consider it as his break through in Bollywood. After the role of a very serious doctor, he next appeared in Main Hoon Na as the forgetful principal and we knew it right then that he was one amazing actor!
There are few things that not many of us know about Boman Irani. He’s a brilliant actor. We all know that. But most of us wonder, why did he enter Bollywood so late? At this age? Well, he wasn’t exactly interested in Bollywood.
Boman Irani has a degree in polytechnic. After getting his diploma, he joined the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower and worked as a waiter and room service staff. After few years, he left his job at Taj and started helping his mum run their ancestral bakery located in South Mumbai. He interest soon went from baking cakes to taking pictures. He went to photography classes and eventually became a professional photographer. He even shot a portfolio for popular TV actress, Sanaya Irani.
Though Bollywood wasn’t his dream, Boman always took active part in school-college plays and dramas. He acted in some theater plays before really focusing on Bollywood. It was in the 2000 that Boman Irani decided to give Bollywood a shot. One year later he made his debut in Bollywood with Everybody Says I’m Fine! as Mr. Mittal. The movie wasn’t a huge sucess but Boman Irani got noticed. Though, only very few people praised him.
His next movies like Lets Talk, Darna Mana Hai and Boom didn’t give him much screen space but he was happy with what he was getting. His hard work was paid off when he got the offer of Munna Bhai and to work with Sanjay Dutt in the fourth film was like a dream come true.
Munna Bhai was like the key to his kismat ka tala. The movie made him a star and from that day on, offers kept coming. His role as Jahangir Hayaat Khan in Veer-Zaara marked his permanent place in Bollywood. From then on, he kept talking different roles. He appeared in quite a few movies over a short span of 12 years. Boman’s most noticeable roles were from movies like 3 Idiots, Housefull, Cocktail, Page 3, Don and Student of The Year.
Despite becoming a huge hit and a big success in Bollywood over such a short period, Boman Irani has never been proud. We can always relate to him and to be honest he is the live example of the fact that nothing is impossible and hard work really pays of at the end of the day.
Team Celebden wishes Boman Irani a very Happy Birthday and lots of joy and love!
