Imtiaz Ali, the director who’s coming up with the movie Highway talks about it, in the process revealing many fascinating things about the script. Starring Randeep Hoonda and Alia Bhatt, the movie is going to be a romantic drama. And the script for it was apparently the very first script that Imtiaz has ever written. He’s written in nearly 12 years ago when he first made it an action movie, which then changed to a super-romantic movie on the lines of Qayamat Se Qayamat tak.
“I have thought of making ‘Highway’ in various ways. There was a time when I was thinking of making a very big action film. I wrote the script also at that time and I don’t know where the script is. I tried making it in a very romantic way, some 12 years back I was thinking about it like ‘Qayamat se Qayamat Tak’. It changed forms many a times.” he said.
Like the title would suggest, Highway will have a lot to do with travelling. Imtiaz confirms that, saying “The story of ‘Highway’ is completely about travel. It is about the fascination of travel to an extent that I don’t want to even reach the destination and also being away from society gives you a certain view of the society, so that was the intension of the film.”
Also, this happens to be the first film in Imtiaz’s career where despite the script being changed so many times, in the end, there was no actual written script for the movie. “This is the only film I have shot where the script was not ready. The script got ready after the shooting of the scene because the dialogues were decided on the spot. I could afford to do that because I knew the story, I knew that I won’t go away from the basic story.”
