Yes! You read that right. Kareena Kapoor didn’t really have too many changes in her soon-to-relaese film Gori Tere Pyaar Mein and had to survive of just six pair of costumes.
“Since the Karan Johar production has a village backdrop to it, it was prudent that Kareena didn’t wear anything flashy. Moreover, she is shown to be fighting for the cause of poor villagers and hence it only made sense that she kept a low profile, as far as her dresses were concerned,” informs a source attached to the film.
From the film promos and songs, what one notices is that her entire look is very simple, especially the second half of the film. The first half however sees her don a few different costumes, her most elaborate look being in the song Tooh.
Laughs Punit Malhotra, the film’s director, “We had to throw (costume designer) Manish Malhotra out of the film and he really wanted to kill me for that. After all, the only requirement was for Kareena to wear just six costumes for a major part of the film and those too were simple enough so that they went with the de-glam persona that she is carrying.”
Even though she plays a simple girl-next-door character in the film, Kareena had to keep a close check on her diet.
“She was very cooperative in all aspects,” says Punit, “She had to play someone who was in a village set up and hence her diet had to be very specific. Then to make her pass on as someone who was one amongst the villagers than being an outsider, I made her try so many costumes, before finalizing a select six. As a result, she will come across as a Kareena that people can identify with.”
Gori Tere Pyaar Mein hits theaters on 22 Nov.
