15 totally tapori Hindi songs only Gen-Y can understand

We may be living and experiencing the new millennium, but let me tell you, the 90′s aren’t dead. Saif Ali Khan is married again, Madhuri Dixit is back in Bollywood, Sanjay Dutt is back in jail, Jiah Khan’s death is like Déjà vu of Divya Bharti’s and Salman Khan continues to be the king of masses. Well, history does seem to be in a repeat mode.
From burning discs to downloading music, waking up as early as 7 am on Sunday’s just to watch Rangoli and sleeping as late as 9 pm on Wednesdays, only after watching your dose of Chitrahaar, when movie tickets were priced at Rs 50 not Rs 250 and intermissions spelt piping hot samosas for Rs 5 and not Rs 50, boy, those were some days. Let’s face it! Nothing beats the 90′s.

Remember our Hindi songs back then? I’m sure you don’t. Well, allow me to do this awesome deed of helping you reminiscence 15 super cheesy songs of the 90′s, that was, is and will always remain dear to us.

PS: I went nostalgic while compiling this list.

Oonchi Hai Building – Judwaa

A typical Anu Malik humdrum beats submerged between Punjabi-Indian beats. While Anu’s voice is super annoying and the lyrics are not worth mentioning, there is something about the whole song that makes it listenable.

Tan Tana Tan Tan Tan Tara – Judwaa

“Tan Tana Tan Tan Tan Taara Chalati Hai Kya Nau Se Baara”, Are you serious? I mean, outright stupid lyrics. But the only saving grace is the music beats. Okay, the singing is also not all that bad. Nevertheless, as a whole, this is so epic!

East Aur West India Is The Best – Judwaa

One song is still bearable, but three songs from the same film is like, “somebody please kill me, NOW”. Anyway, East Aur West.. sees Anu Malik at his best. It’s a song about the good of India on a rap tone, ideally an oxymoron track.

Amma Dekh Tera Munda – Stuntman

This film released in the year 1994. Truly speaking I only knew the song and not the name of the movie, until I stumbled upon this one while making this list. Jackie Shroff is undoubtedly one of the best actors from the 90s . The guy has his own style.

Jab Bhi Koi Ladki Dekhu – Ye Dillagi

Thank God for youtube, we still have access to such songs. These are so much better than todays songs like char baj gaye. #childhood memories…#Sundays…#8 am…#Rangoli…

Akhiyon Se Goli Maare – Dulhe Raja

This foot tapping number has the right mix of western dance fused with a bhangra beat and some exceptional singing by Sonu Nigam and Jaspinder Narula.

Kisi Disco Mein Jaye – Bade Miyan Chote Miyan

Very innovative use of sounds and playful lines, this catchy track has simple stupid lyrics, and I love them. Udit Narayan brings a lot of life into this song.

Meri Pant Bhi Sexy – Dulaara

Did you know, the song was sung by Govinda himself. This is the Original ‘Im Sexy And I Know It’. Even today, this song is still sexy! Govinda’s expressions are priceless.

Meri baat sunkar dekho hansna nahi, Stop that- Gambler

The wordings came back word by word to my mind as I listened to the song, today! Another one of those “only Govinda can do” numbers. Meri baat sunkar… was no. 5 constantly for a year on PHILIPS TOP 10 in 1994-1995. Need we say any more? Thank you Govinda for making our childhood so delightful.

Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast – Mohra

These type of songs are better than today’s “Sheila Ki Jawani” and “Chikni Chameli” and the likes. Seriously, where did these melodious songs disappear off the radar?

Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai – Khalnayak

The most scandalous number of the 90′s and yet the peppiest ever. I so wish there was a time machine to take me back to these old days of Bollywood.

Main To Raste Se – Coolie No 1

This got to be a perfect David Dhawan-Anand-Milind combo. Nonsensical lyrics yet so much fun listening to it. These songs came out during the best phase of our lives, no wonder we are so attached to them. Golden forever!

Aati Kya Khandala – Ghulam

Aamir Khan’s first venture into the world of playback singing. With super catchy beats, this is one of the most iconic songs in Bollywood. 90′s, the golden period indeed.

Aaj na chhodunga tujhe – Dil

Stalker of the world found their new anthem, Aaj na chhodunga tujhe dam dama dam.

Tutu Tu Tutu Tara todo na dil humara – Bol Radha Radha

Who said heroines cant look sexy when they are fully clothed? A mass-appealing tune, the music is a blend of beats and catchy sounds.
