amfAR is a foundation for AIDS research; which is conducting a fundraising gala in India for the first time. The event which will be held in Mumbai, will be hosted by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and her husband Abhishek Bachchan. They will be joined by the Hollywood star Sharon Stone, at the event in November.
“I would like to thank the people of India for their brave and conscientious work in the fight against HIV/AIDS and for allowing amfAR the privilege of joining them in this important global effort. We are grateful and humbled to be welcomed by the Indian community and to share in the wealth of knowledge provided by the Indian people and its government,” said Stone, the Fundraising Chairperson of the amfAr, in a statement.
The American popstar Ke$ha will also fly down to Mumbai to perform at the event where Kenneth Cole, Anuj Gupta, and Rocky Malhotra are among the guests. Kenneth Cole is also the Chariman of the Board of the organisation.
Elizabeth Taylor hosted the first amfAR international benefit in 1993 during the Cannes Film Festival. Since then, the Foundation’s international galas in Milan, New York, Los Angeles, Cannes, Sao Paolo, Venice, Rome, Austria and Dubai have become some of the most high-profile, eagerly anticipated and consistently successful charity events in the world, raising millions for critical AIDS research programmes.
