It’s a well known fact now that Besharam is a blunder. The movie neither had a proper script nor could do any magic at the box office despite a strong 3600 screen release! However, what we didn’t know till now was that Jayantilal Gada of Pen India who had signed a deal for the satellite rights of the film was unlike any other deal so far. The deal had a clause where in there were Positive, negative and exit clause.
According to the deal, the final cost of the satellite rights are directly connected with how the movie performs at the box-office. While at the same time, leaving room for either party to part ways if unhappy with the final decision via the exit clause. I.e, if the film were to have a positive valuation at the box office crossing the Rs 100 Crore mark, the price for the satellite rights will also effectively increase. However, on the other hand, if the film gets a negative response at the box office, the price for the rights too will subsequently be devalued.
Though the exact value of the deal is being kept under wraps at the moment, it would be interesting to see if Pen India will go ahead with the deal or take the escape route to wash their hands away from Besharam.
