Ranbir Kapoor had a major hit this year with his movie Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani and Abhinav Kashyap’s directoral debut Dabangg was also a major hit. Now the two have come together and the result is Besharam, which is releasing today. Based on their previous hits, expectations on the movie are very high.
“Our expectations are huge. We have made a good film and have promoted it well,” Kahsyap told IANS. The icing on the cake for these guys is the fact that no big movies are being released this Friday. So Besharam has a clean week as far as competition is concerned.
The film, produced by Himanshu Mehra, Sanjeev Gupta and Reliance Entertainment, had a shooting budget of Rs 60 crore excluding the cost of promotions, marketing and advertising. It is the biggest Bollywood release ever, with 3600 domestic screens being booked for it; beating Chennai Express‘s record of 3400 screens.
“We have locked about 3,600 screens in India and 700 screens overseas,” said the director.
It is a big film and there is no other film releasing in the same week. We have to wait and watch how it unfolds and whether the audience likes it or not,” film analyst Taran Adarsh told IANS.
The film, which also stars Ranbir Kapoor’s parents Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, marks the debut of Pallavi Sharda; an Australian citizen, who plays the lead female role in the movie.
A source said, “Since YJHD has released and become a huge success, Ranbir is relaxed and at ease. ‘Besharam’ will be his most massy film so far, and it’ll have him sharing screen space with his parents for the first time. Even when the film’s poster was released, it generated a lot of curiosity.”
Will Besharam be another hit for Ranbir Kapoor and take him one step closer to becoming the topmost actor in Bollywood?
