The Nautanki Donor who sings, acts, anchors: Ayushmann Khurrana

Ayushmann Khurrana is a top class entertainer, be it his acting or his singing or his anchoring. Going by his previous movies and the fully faltoo films on MTV, he seems to be most proficient in handling the comedy genre. From being the initially-reluctant-later-professional sperm donor in Vicky Donor, to spoofing Shahrukh Khan and Hritik Roshan in MTV movies to playing a theatre actor in Nautanki Saala Khurrana handles being a comedian with elan. On his birthday, let’s see who Ayushmann Khurrana really is.

The actor who turns 28 today has been involved in acting since the time he was in college. He was a founding member of DAV College’s Aaghaaz and Manchtantra, which are active theatre groups in Chandigarh. He wrote and acted in street plays and also in national fests at IITs and BITS, Pilani. He also won many prizes for his plays including a best actor award for playing Ashwatthama in Dharamvir Bharati’s Andha Yug. He was an RJ with BIG FM in Delhi and he hosted the popular show Big Chai – Maan Na Maan, Main Tera Ayushmann winning the Young Achievers Award in 2007 for it.

His television career was literally kick-started when he was selected for the second season of the popular TV show MTV Roadies in 2004. He actually went on to become the winner of the show and later, became a VJ at the channel. He hosted a very popular show called Pepsi MTV Wassup, The Voice of Youngistaan, an informative show for the youth; in addition to hosting shows like MTV Rock On, Extra Innings T20 for Indian Premier League Season 3, Just Dance, etc.

Ayushmann Khurrana started his screen acting career with MTV’s spoof movies (titled fully faltoo movies). He acted in a movie titled “Cheque De India” (a spoof of SRK’s Chak De! India) and another movie titled “Jadoo Ek baar”  (a spoof of Hrithik Roshan’s Jodha Akbar).

The actor from Chandigarh debuted in the feature film Vicky Donor where he plays the role of Vicky Arora- a typical punjabi man who becomes a professional sperm donor. This movie which was the first film produced by John Abraham, was a surprise hit. Khurrana explored his skills in the movie and also turned a musician and a singer when he composed and performed a song “Pani Da Rang” in the movie. He won the Best Singer and the Best Male Debut awards at the Filmfare awards that year in addition to winning many other awards such as the IIFA award for the best newcomer.

The musician-singer-anchor-actor was later seen in the movie Nautanki Saala, which was directed by Rohan Sippy.  He will be next seen in Yash Raj Film’s next film which is yet to be titled and another film titled Hamara Bajaj.
