At the age of 21, when most girls are just about to discover themselves in this big, bad world, our passionate Anushka Sharma already owned a fancy SUV and a three-bed-room flat in Mumbai. The very next year, 2012, she gifted herself not one and two but three flats on the 20th floor of a plush Versova building, worth Rs. 10 crore, which she most probably converted into a single sprawling apartment.
Anushka was quoted as saying, “I’m extremely ambitious; I have this fire in my belly to do bigger and better things. I want to be at a point in my life where the best films, with the best directors and banners, are being offered to me.”
Now this is enormous for a young girl who had a very humble start. Such is the story for most self made Bollywood actresses.
Deepika Padukone, the newest Bollywood femme fatale, made news when she purchased a sprawling 2,776 sq foot four bed roomed apartment with three parking slots in BeauMonde Towers, Prabhadevi, worth Rs 16 crores. The proud owner told a daily, “I run my own life, live on my own, make my own money. My parents support me in everything I do. But I am responsible for my home and the life that I have chosen for myself. At my age, my mother was married and she had me.”
Financially independent is sexy!
What best could explain independence for a woman than owning a property, especially in a country like ours where power dressing, firm handshakes and bigger pay packets is considered a man’s forte alone.
Well, Anushka and Deepika aren’t alone. There are several young Bollywood ladies, as young as 18-19 years old, have it and aren’t afraid to flaunt it anymore.
Being in a relationship is so bleh! Single is the new married.
Yes! You heard it right! Single is definitely the new married, at least in Bollywood. Our beauties have moved beyond sulking over wounded hearts and gorging on cheesecakes. They don’t feel the need to be defined by a mere relationship status. In fact, our ladies are married to themselves and their jobs. Gone are those cavemen days when knowing how to cook and doing household chores were mandatory for a woman. Today, most girls are raised to be individualistic and so are our Bollywood divas. Marriage isn’t top priority anymore and age is clearly a number, today.
Kareena Kapoor for example, was in no hurry to tie the knot despite parental pressure. Apparently, the actress is said to have postponed her wedding dates several times last year, giving priority to her work commitments. And why not? Bebo was at her career peak back then. Now that she’s married and continues to be at the peak of her career, Kareena reveals, she would never mix professional and personal lives, and that the films she chooses would never affect her marriage.
Bipasha Basu is another live example. After a long nine years of being in a relationship with John Abraham, and an even more publicized break up, our bong beauty has no qualms whatsoever. The very fact that she blames no one for her heartbreak, shows how matured she is. She is now more focused on her career and the people she ignored when she was with John. The actress is adamant on being herself and is celebrating her single status everyday. Life is good for Bips.
Bharatiya nari no more an abla nari!
Who better than the Himachal babe Kangana Ranaut can explain this? The lady, who left home with just Rs 10000 in her pocket and her grandfather’s blessings, today, is one of the most sought after actresses in Bollywood. Everybody knows Kangana Ranaut.
Priyanka Chopra is another woman who instantly comes to our minds. Leave alone creating a niche for herself in the industry, the actress has gone ahead and gently introduced her cousin sis Parineeti Chopra, as well, and is on the brink of launching her second cousin too. She is busy playing a Godfather to newbies, instead. Now how cool is that!
And, how can we forget Katrina Kaif? The Brit beauty, who was a nobody until a few years ago, is currently the highest paid actress in Bollywood. She has also paved the way for her younger sister Isabelle.
Single career is so mainstream!
Bollywood’s fashionista Sonam Kapoor is collaborating with Kareena Kapoor to open their own fashion lines. Our busy ladies are taking out time from their hectic shooting schedule and learning to improvise on their alternative careers.
Look at Priyanka Chopra! The sexy damsel is clearly not satisfied with just acting. She is now popular on the music front too, worldwide.
From bagging National awards to making it to the top most powerful women in the world on top notch magazines, our women have proven that they are capable of doing anything on their own.
“The shoes on my feet, I’ve bought it,
The clothes I’m wearing, I’ve bought it,
The rock I’m rockin’, I’ve bought it,
’Cause I depend on me.
If I wanted the watch you’re wearin’, I’ll buy it,
The house I live in, I’ve bought it,
The car I’m driving, I’ve bought it,
I depend on me.”
Oh yeah! Now that’s the anthem of our modern independent women, thanks to the female musical trio Destiny’s Child for this awesome meaningful composition.
