The Hatke Randeep Hooda

Whether it is acting as a closet homosexual in the short film Ajeeb Dastan Hai Yeh or being a regret-filled cop in Once Upon A Time in Mumbai or being the servant who seduces his master’s wife in Saheb, Biwi and Gangster, Randeep Hooda has proven that he is a hatke actor in the true sense. His versatility is demonstrated in every film he does, in every role he plays. To add to the hatke factor is the fact that the Karma Aur Holi star is also into not so conventional sports like polo.

The actor who considers Naseeruddin Shah to be an inspiration and somebody who has helped nurtured him as an actor, not only in terms of career but also in terms of his skill and craft; is appearing in the thriller John Day (releasing today) along with Shah. Hooda, who is known for his attitude both on screen and off screen, seems to captivate the viewers in the trailer of the movie itself where he says “duniya ka sabse khatarnak janwar insaan hai”. Earlier, the 37 year old actor acted in many critically acclaimed movies like Herione (where he plays an up-coming cricketer who’s dumped by the protagonist), Rang Rasiya (a bio-pic on the Indian artist Raja Ravi Verma) and in the BAFTA nominated Monsoon Wedding by Mira Nair.

In addition to being an actor and an equestrian, Randeep Hooda is also an outspoken social activist. He was a guest contributor to the “In The Script” column, published by Asian Correspondent in 2009. His article titled “Racism Against Indians in Australia” discussed the then recent violence against Indians in Australia. In that, he wrote his experiences living in Australia when he was subjected to racial discrimination. Additionally, he also worked with several NGOs on issues like chronic hunger and suicides. Hooda who was in a relationship with the former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen said “Don’t accept defeat. Fight back adversities. Failure is a myth. Every experience is a just fodder for the future. Suicide doesn’t the problem, It ends you”; speaking against suicide.

He has several movies lined up after John Day in the coming months. The actor will be seen playing different characters in Highway, Ungli, Bad and Kick, giving him an opportunity to showcase his repertoire as an actor.
