The much awaited Grand Masti released today (13th September). A few weeks ago a social activist filed a petition against the movie saying it had obscene content and its depiction of women was indecent. The Punjab and Haryana High Court in Chandigarh had stayed the movie’s release in the two states but now it has been released all over India including those two states. Like the movie, the three actors (Vivek Oberoi, Aftab Shivdasani, Riteish Deshmukh) playing lead roles in the movie had their fair share of controversies in the past. Here are the misadventures of the trio.
Vivek Oberoi’s Romantic Drama
Vivek Oberoi started dating Aishwarya Rai who had recently broken up with Salman Khan. This break-up after much drama and it was highly publicised. Vivek gave her 30 gifts on her 30th birthday (this was a rage news back then). Controversies dogged him after he broke up with her; when called a press conference to report threats and the numerous missed calls he apparently got from Salman Khan, a move which he later claimed ruined his career and made him an industry outcast. Aishwarya Rai was quoted describing Vivek as “immature”.
Aftab Shivdasani’s Bar Fight
Aftab Shivdasani was in the centre of a controversy a few years ago after brawl in a hip Pune nightclub. The club management accused Shivdasani of “doing drugs” on the premises and of threatening to use his political influence to get the pub’s license revoked. Aftab visited the was found doing drugs at the pub, following which he was asked to leave the premises. But instead the actor went up to a woman in the party and misbehaved with her. The woman’s friends came to her rescue and a brawl ensued. Shivdasani not only hit the two friends, he also slapped the club manager when the latter, along with the bouncers, tried to intervene. Aftab rubbished the allegations saying, ” Someone is up to some stupid, malicious prank, I was there in the club with family and close friends and had a quiet dinner after which we left”. Nevertheless, he had a misadventure.
Riteish Deshmukh’s Inappropriate Visit
Compared to those two, Riteish Deshmukh’s infraction is very minor. He was the subject of a controversy when he and Ram Gopal Varma visited the Taj hotel after the November 2008 attacks. He went there along with his father Vilas Rao Deshmukh. He was accused of going to the hotel to recce the place to make a movie on it. Riteish Deshmukh apologized to the public and didn’t do anything about it later and Ram Gopal Varma made the hit movie based on the attacks titled The Attacks of 26/11.
