Will Naseeruddin Shah sweep awards with John Day?

Naseeruddin Shah, Padma Bhushan is one of the most iconic actors of Indian Cinema. The three-time National Award winning actor has been nominated for countless awards winning many of them including international awards like The Volpi Cup (Best Actor) at the Venice Film Festival in 1984 for the movie Paar. The 63 year old actor who is one of the most influential actors of the Indian Parallel Cinema is starring in a movie John Day which is slated to be released on September 13th. Now one can only wonder if Naseeruddin Shah will sweep awards away with John Day. Adding to this is the fact that John Day is being produced by Anjum Rizvi, the same person who produced Shah’s National Award winning movie A Wednesday.

The actor’s first award was the National Award for the Best actor for his portrayal of a visually impaired principal of a school for the blind in the 1980 movie Sparsh. Shabana Azmi stars in this romance movie opposite Naseeruddin Shah. He got his second National award for his performance in the 1984 movie Paar. He plays a laborer in this movie on exploitation in Bihar. Shah also won an international award for this performance at the Venice Film Festival. The Mohra star’s third national award was for his acting in the 2005 movie Iqbal. In this underdog movie, he plays the role of Mohit, a drunkard ex-cricketer who trains the protagonist Iqbal.

In addition to the National Awards, the actor has also won the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to the theater industry and also three Filmfare Awards. The first one was for his role in the National Award winning movie Aakrosh by Govind Nihalani. His second Filmfare award was for his role as a drug and STD ravaged pimp and an ex-con in the movie Chakra. His third and last filmfare award so far is for his portrayal of a husband having an illegitimate child through extra-marital affair in the movie Masoom.

That apart, the promising trailers of the movie John Day give the impression that he is going to win some awards for sure this time.}}
