Ram Charan Teja achieved success in a very short span of time in the South film industry and he would have expected the same in North when his debut movie Zanjeer released this past week. The movie is a remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s 1973 hit film, Zanjeer. But the movie didn’t really seem to connect with the audience as it did very poor at the Indian Box Office in it’s first weekend.
The movie had an occupancy of about 2,085 screens across the country and it’s collections were expected to be more than it’s rival Shuddh Desi Romance which also released this past week with a limit of just 1,050 screens.. But the Ram Charan Teja and Priyanka Chopra starrer collected Rs 9.74 crores at the Indian Box Office in the first weekend. It’s breakup being – Rs 3.58 crores on Friday, Rs 2.89 crores on Saturday and Rs 3.27 crores on Sunday. For a movie like Zanjeer and considering all the hype around it, a rough figure of Rs 10 crores is very poor.
While on the other hand, Shuddh Desi Romance which stars Sushant singh Rajput, Parineeti Chopra and Vaani Kapoor has done amazing business in it’s first weekend. The movie was the biggest opener for Sushant Singh and Parineeti and it eventually climbed to 20% on Saturday. The movie collected about Rs 6.45 crores on Friday, Rs 7.90 crores on Saturday and Rs 8.92 crores on Sunday, with the total being – Rs 23.27 crores in the first weekend at the domestic box office. It should also be noted that the maximum number of viewers of the film are aged between 20-25.
