Love them or hate them, you can’t ignore them. We are talking about the menacing baddies in Bollywood, without which no film is complete. The evil face of the movie can come in the form of an international gangster, a local gunda, a stepmother, a rich father against poor son-in-law, a jilted lover, a crooked politician or even a dishonest police man. We bring you a list of Top 5 Bollywood villians who with their evil ways and bizarre getups, terrorised our heroes.
Amrish Puri – Mr India
Did you know, Amrish Puri entered Bollywood with the hope of becoming a hero, but went on to become one of the most renowned and credible villains in Bollywood. His evil portrayal in movies definitely makes him the ‘baap’ of all baddies. Who can ever forget his famous dialogue: “Mogambo khush hua!”
Amjad Khan – Sholay
He is a wicked genius. Remember his dialogue, “Kitne aadmi the?” OMG! It still sends chills down our spines. Amjad Khan aka Gabbar Singh was the villain who sold glucose biscuits to children. An amusing paradox!
There is none like him. Villains can be lovable too, and Gabbar is sure one of them.
Pran – Zanjeer
His name is enough to make a baby cry. Kidding! But did you know, a survey conducted in the 50s found that families had become cautious of naming their newborn Pran. No kidding! His on screen sinister ways can never be replaced. Those dangerous looks and that evil grin, gosh! He is bad to the bone.
Prem Chopra – Bobby
“Prem naam hai mera. Prem Chopra.” The league of iconic villains would be incomplete without the mention of Prem Chopra. He was the kebab mein haddi in almost every love story in the ’70s. Nothing was too bad for Prem Chopra’s on-screen persona – rape, murder, blackmail… you name it and he’s done it.
Sadashiv Amrapurkar – Sadak
Every time Sadashiv appeared on the screen, it was clear that he was up to no good. His entry into the frame brought an air of unease and bitterness among the audience. Apparently, his act in the 1991 film Sadak, where he played Maharani the ‘eunuch’ brothel madam, was so powerful that Filmfare established an award for negative characters, and obviously he won it.
Ashutosh Rana – Sangharsh
A single stare from this super villain (Ashutosh Rana) was enough to make the most ‘rough and tough’ people go jelly-kneed. No force of nature shall erase our memory of the ultimate villainious act in the films Dushman and Sangharsh. His powerhouse performance in both the film unnerved the daylights out of the audience. He was so frighteningly convincing.
Sanjay Dutt – Agneepath
The bad just got mean! In the 2012 Agneepath remake, Sanjay Dutt stole the limelight from rest of the cast with his evil portrayal of Kancha Cheena. He is mean, cruel and off course, well-styled to look ugly. His most Villainous Line: “Tum kya leke aaye the, aur kya leke jaaoge. Reh jayega sirf ek insaan, sarva shaktishali, sarva shaktimaan – Kancha.”
The super talented actor will once again don the negative character in his upcoming film Zanjeer. Sanjay plays the iconic role of Sher Khan, a character made famous by Pran in the original film. Watch out for him!
