Salman Khan’s ‘Mental’ gets a new name, Azaad

Salman Khan’s film Mental, which is being directed by Sohail Khan, has apparently been re-titled to Azaad. However, the new name is yet to be finalized.

A remake of Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi’s 2006 movie Stalin, the story is about an Indian Army Major who takes up a noble way of spreading goodness in the world, and in return asks them to help three more.

Earlier the Khan brothers were thinking of naming the film Jai Ho, and apparently, Salman Khan’s parents too gave them a thumbs up. That didn’t work somehow and so the duo bros decided to stick with Azaad. The movie is slated for a release on January 24, 2014, two days ahead of the Republic Day, and so the patriotic title would perfectly fit the occasion. Also, Azaad suits Salman Khan’s ‘Dabangg’ persona, plus the actor insisted on having a one-word title.

What went wrong with the title Mental?

Well, if buzz is to be believed, Sohail thought the quirky name had not one but several meanings to it, including a derogatory one, hence the name change.

The film is currently in post-production stage and it stars newbies Sana Khan, Daisy Shah, along with Tabu and Bruna Abdullah and others.
