Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s new flick Chennai Express has already broken a box office record on the eve of it’s worldwide Eid release.
The Rohit Shetty movie has raked in Rs 6.75 crores from the Thursday paid previews in India, a record which was previously held by 3 Idiots (Rs 2.7 crores). But the bigger news is that the movie has set a new record in the UK as well with 142,220 pounds coming in on Thursday. The response is certainly maximus and the movie is doing huge business in Singapore, Australia and New Zealand as well.
The movie hit 3500 screens on Thursday, packing up 11 screens on an average in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad, which is a record in itself.
On Thursday evening Shahrukh Khan himself dropped by at PVR Juhu to check out the audience reaction.
“Just dropped into Juhu PVR to gauge how all paid preview audience liking the film…its fun to observe all…happy reactions,” SRK tweeted.
On Friday morning, the movie went houseful at almost every screen and is considered a strong contender to break the highest first-day grosses of all time. The record is currently held by Ek Tha Tiger with Rs. 30.72 crores.
