Shahrukh Khan seems to have taken another step towards promoting sport in India and after cricket, it’s time for some football! Apparently, he’s been planning to big for the Kolkata franchise of the new league promoted by All India Football Federation and IMG-Reliance.
Shahrukh Khan said he was looking forward to buy stakes in the successful Goan I-League club Dempo and now with the new franchise-based league coming up, he decided to change his mind.
“Earlier I was planning to buy stakes in Dempo and now with the new franchise-based league coming up, I will have a look at it. I will love to own a franchise, ” Shah Rukh was quoted as saying by a TV channel.
Asked which city he would buy, Shah Rukh said: “I will love to have the Kolkata football club. ”
Eight clubs, 176 players, 72 international stars and 10 weeks of football action and that’s exactly how AIFF’s commercial partner IMG-Reliance plans to showcase Indian football to the world early next year. This new excited tournament has been scheduled from January 18 to March 30th and will be based on the lines of Indian Premier League which is managed by IMG itself. They have a contract with AIFF to run event for 12 years.
Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai, Kochi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Goa and Guwahati have been shortlisted for the auction. And as per Canindia, David Beckham, Thierry Henry, Michael Owen and Raul Gonzalez – could be seen in action in the tournament.
