Sometimes, our Bollywood celebs take their international image a little too serious. They may have made it big in Hollywood, but why that sudden, annoying accent change? Here are a few actors with their inappropriate foreign accent.
The Goddess of all fake accents, Ms Sherawat recently came under media scanner when she said during an interview at Cannes that India “is a regressive nation for women” and that Indian women are at the “boddom (bottom) of the society”. She also stated that she was the first Indian actress “to wear a bikheeeni“. The actress also mentionted about her film “Durrty Pahlitics” (Dirty Politics to everyone else). We are sure, no one else can do a better job than Sherawat when it comes to ape the western language.
Talk about fake accents and not include Mrs Rai Bachchan, that’s not possible! If you recollect Ash’s appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s show in 2005, there was a lot of bad remarks surrounding her made up foreign accent, which continues to remain fresh in our minds even today. In an interview with David Frost in the year 2012, Ash admitted that she does switch her accent sometime. She said, “When I am on the world platform, I do speak with a little more of a pronounced accent, so my accent does get a little more westernized.”
She is said to be the most prominent member in this list. PeeCee received criticism for her American twang, not by the media alone, but also from her rival, Kareena Kapoor. If you recollect, on Karan Johar’s talk show, Bebo made jibes at Piggy stating, “I wonder where Priyanka got her accent from.” A few weeks later, on the same show, Priyanka commented, “I want to tell Kareena that I got my accent from the same place where her boyfriend (Saif) got his.”, referring to the fact that she, like Saif, went to school abroad.
Anil Kapoor too has been the victim to fake English accent, all thanks to Danny Boyle’s film, Slumdog Millionaire. Apparently, Priyadarshan’s 2012 project Tezz had to be re-dubbed after Anil himself pointed out that his Brit-accented dialogue delivery in the film didn’t work.
The Hollywood bug seemed to have bit the dancing diva as well. Post marriage, Mads settled down in the US and her desi accent was Americanized, that became prominent in her interviews, after she returned to India.
