London is a special place for me : Deepika Padukone

Because Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani opened to packed cinema halls, Deepika Padukone is on a high these days. In an exclusive interview to a UK-based online Bollywood portal, Deepika has talked about her connection with United Kingdom and her character in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.

Remembering the premier of her debut film opposite Shahrukh Khan, she said, “I’m grateful that my films have done well in the UK. The UK is like home to me and I miss being there. I started my journey right in Leicester Square, London at the premiere of Om Shanti Om” Perhaps, she believes that London has brought her luck! “Then I have shot for films like Love Aaj Kal, Housefull, Desi Boyz and Cocktail in London and in the UK. It’s a special place for me and it will always remain so, Deepika told the online portal.

She also drew comparisons between her character in the film, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and her real life. “For me, Naina Talwar is me. I was the reference point. I did not have to research. I did not have to observe anyone else. I just had to be me,” she said. In the backdrop of reports that her film Cocktail was received well even in lands as far as Russia, she said, “It feels really special. I never thought that my movie would restart the trend of Hindi movies in Russia. When I think about Hindi films in Russia, I think about Rajnikanth or Raj Kapoor movies. It feels great that Cocktail started the trend and now Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani will release there too.”

Previously, Deepika had told everybody that she took up the film without reading the script because she wanted to work with her ex-flame Ranbir Kapoor! While the movie is going strong, there’s no news of it making waves overseas. If it does, Russia might well be the new special place for Deepika!
