What is Gippi? It’s the story of a girl who transforms from teenage to adulthood. The movie delivers a loud and clear message. The movie takes us through the situations and the hardships thrown by life. The change in ones body, the constant nagging of parents, the sweet crushes, the evil school bully, the movie has it all. Though the movie is first of its kind, but the audience will cheer for Gippi as its nothing but the truth. The kids will relate to it and feel better because they aren’t the only ones who are facing those bittersweet troubles that teenage offers.
The movie is as close to reality as possible and makes us relive past moments. Riya Vij is the winner. Though the story is slow and drags at time, her flawless acting keeps us going. Her effortless acting gets us thinking if she is really feeling the emotion. Well, chubby as she is she was most definately the perfect girl for the character of Gippi. The antagonist of the story nails her character with evil perfection.
Debutante director, Sonam Niar takes us through Gippi’s life beautifully. Emotions are well captured and the story remains well rooted. The cinematography is good and the music is soothing yet fun.
The movie takes us through the journey of the troubles and awkwardness high school students go through. Their need to belong and grow up yet have a soft child like heart. The characters in the movie are real and not reel. Once can actually relate to these characters and understand what they are going through.
