Southern superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran, who debuted in Bollywood with Aiyyaa with Rani Mukherjee, has bought the rights of his hit Malayalam film, Ayalum Njanum Thammil. Prithviraj plans to remake the movie in Hindi and is looking to cast Amitabh Bachchan in it.
Ayalum Njanum Thammil which was directed by Lal Jose had released in October last year. It also featured Narein, Prathap Pothen, Samvrutha Sunil and Remya Nambeesan, the movie was a medical drama and the critics appreciated the film as well as Prithviraj’s performance in it. Ayalum Njanum Thammil felt like a tapestry, matted with threads of personal discovery, the emotional results of which were overpowering. It’ll certainly be a challenge for Prithviraj to match the skillful direction of Lal Jose.
Prithviraj’s Aiyyaa failed to create any sparks on the box office but he believes that the reach of Hindi cinema is immense and like any other performer, even he yearns for a similar big stage.
“I have taken the first step and bought the film. Now, the rights of the film rest with me, so I can be assured that nobody else is going to do it. That’s the first step to ensure that the project has somehow shaped up,” said Prithviraj.
“I have started showing the film to few people over here. Let’s hope that they have the same kind of interest that I do and hopefully, I get a draft written in English that I will take to Mr Bachchan to read it,” he added.
