Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has been sentenced to five years imprisonment by the Supreme Court in connection with the 1993 Mumbai blast that claimed 257 lives.
Initially, Dutt had been given six years jail term by the TADA court. However, the SC reduced it to five years. He has already served 18 months in prison and he will now have to serve the remaining three and a half years in jail. Dutt has been charged with illegal possession of firearms acquired from terrorist acquaintances.
The apex court has said, Dutt will not be able to shoot pictures during the remaining three and a half years of prison term. The SC’s jail verdict is going to affect three of Sanjay’s biggest films, which includes ‘PeeKay’, ‘Policegiri’ and ‘Ungli’. The producers of his current projects too will suffer a big blow.
The list of some more movies the actor had signed for 2013-14 include, Munnabhai Chale Dilli (2014), Chamki Chameli (2015), Zanjeer (2013), Alibaugh (June 2013), Policegiri (14 June 2013), Mr. Fraud (July 2013), Jaan ki Baazi (July 2013), Yaan (14 July 2013), Jab Jab Fools Mile (September 2013) and Power (September 2013).
It would be a loss of almost Rs 200 crores to the film producers.
The 53-year-old has just four weeks to surrender.
