Sanjay Dutt, who has been sentenced to 5 years imprisonment by the Supreme Court, is all set to file a review petition today, Friday. If the petition is rejected, Dutt will not be able to escape the charges against him. The actor has already served 18 months in jail and will have to complete the remaining three and a half years of the sentence.
The Bollywood actor is confident that his petition will be reviewed.
Dutt said, “I still believe in judiciary. My family is with me and I am still strong.”
The Supreme Court has ordered the actor to surrender within four weeks from the day of the verdict.
So what exactly is a review petition?
It is one of the last few legal options left to escape imprisonment. Dutt can also appeal to the Governor of Maharashtra to intervene and pardon his sentence.
Sanjay’s lawyer Satish Maneshinde earlier told reporters that 5 years jail sentence literally shocked the actor. The actor, despite the legal action against him, continued to make a long list of films.
“We will wait for a copy of the Supreme Court judgment and then decide the further course of action. He (Dutt) is a strong man and will fight back,” Maneshinde said.
Meanwhile, the SC’s jail verdict is going to affect three of Sanjay’s biggest films, which includes ‘PeeKay’, ‘Policegiri’ and ‘Ungli’. The producers of his current projects too will suffer a big blow.
What is Dutt currently going through?
“I know in my heart that I have always been a good human being, respected the system and always been loyal to my country. My family is very emotional right now and I have to be strong for them. I am shattered and in emotional distress. God is great and he will guide me through this,” he said.
