Arshad Warsi is one of the most established actors of Bollywood and also known as of the most talented actors. His characters such as ‘circuit’ in Munna Bhai Series and ‘Babban’ in ‘Ishqiya’ are the most famous ones which look as if they are meant to be played only by Arshad Warsi, he truly lives in each and every character that he plays.
But to get to this stage in his career he had to face lot of difficult circumstances and nothing in his life came easily right from his childhood. Arshad was born and bought up in Mumbai; he is the eldest son in his family. His father was a singer and poet who use to contribute to the film industry and also had lot of friends in the industry.
Arshad’s family was very happy and comfortable in terms of way of living. But due to some litigation in the law they lost 2 of their 3 bungalows and had to sell the other one due to lack of income. His father died of bone cancer when he was 18 and he also lost his mother two years later, he and his younger brother were all alone from then. He started his work as a door to door salesman of cosmetics and then worked as a lab assistant for Mahesh Bhatt. He then joined Akbar Sami’s dance group and eventually became a choreographer working majorly for Alyque Padamsee and Bharat Dabholkar most of his earnings use to go off for his mother’s treatment giving him very less room to try new things.
He then moved on from the grief of losing his parents and prepared himself mentally that “this hard phase will disappear soon”. While he was earning decently as a choreographer he got a call from director John Augustine after seeing his ability to entertain people around him, but he could not go ahead due to fear of failure in the acting. He then got a call from Jaya Bachchan herself who was the producer of the movie ‘ Tere mere Sapne’ which made Arshad Warsi irresistible to sign the movie marking his debut.
He then did some notable roles in few movies for the next 6 years but the major break for Arshad came when Rajkumar Hirani gave him the role of ‘Circuit’ for the movie ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’. Arshad Warsi earned lot of praises from the audiences after seeing his performance in Munna Bhai and made him famous overnight. From there Arshad never looked back again, he did lot of big budget and successful movies like Golmaal series, Dhamaal Series, Ishqiya and many more.
He then turned producer and made couple of movies in which ‘HumTum aur Ghost’ was already released but did not do well at the box office.
Coming to his personal life, Arshad Warsi married Maria, a dancer whom he met while judging a dance show in 1991 and made her the leading dancer of his troop and eventually married her after a brief date. The couple now have two children, a 10 year old boy named Zeke and a 6 year old girl Zene.
Arshad Warsi is definitely one of the few actors who worked very hard for lot of years to get to a notable position. He is the true example for the people who give up on their lives and careers pretty easily without any hard work and perseverance. Once he started the career as a door to door salesman who would have thought Arshad would make it this far in his life which is a dream for every young aspirant of acting.
According to Nasseruddin Shah “ Arshad Warsi and Irrfan Khan are the only actors presently in Bollywood.”
Jaya Bachchan says “ Arshad is the Al Pacino of India”.
Hats-off to Arshad Warsi for his perseverance, hard work, belief, passion and most importantly the optimism he possesses. He for sure has a long way to go and he will go into history books as one of the greatest actors in Bollywood.
Bollywood Celebden wishes all the best to Arshad Warsi and the team for their new release ‘Jolly L.L.B’.
