The movie Special 26 has appealed to all categories of audiences and looks like the producers of the film, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures are planning to cash in on the fame the movie has got! A birdie tells us that the heist tale is not only going to get a sequel but also may turn into a franchise.
Special 26 is director Neeraj Pandey’s second venture after critically acclaimed A Wednesday. Both the movies have in common the thriller factor and the director says that he intends to change tracks. He said, “I actually wanted to start my career with a love story. But then A Wednesday happened, and now Special 26. I may go back to love now. I haven’t decided.”
Viacom 18 Motion Pictures is keen to start the sequel at the earliest, and Akshay too is reportedly willing to give his dates. So looks like the added push may hurry up the sequel to Special 26.
Saying that chances for a sequel are positive as the script was open ended, Pandey said, “I’ve left the ending open. We saw Akshay’s character leave the country with his girl. It would now be interesting to see what happens to him and his colleagues. Let’s see.”
He added, “But Special 26 featured Akshay Kumar and we were anxious to see how audiences react to his character and performance. Fortunately, the audiences have embraced Akshay’s unusual performance. All the actors were my first choices and I was glad that they agreed to be part of this project,” saying that “less was at stake in A Wednesday as it didn’t feature any major stars”.
“Though it took time, I consider myself lucky. The response to the film has been very good,” added Pandey.
Meanwhile Special 26 which released on February 8th, has collected ₹44 crore in the first week.
