Though Big B has a blink-and-you-will-miss-it role (In Amitabh Bachchan’s own words) in the film, he plays a major part and is very glad of it. By the way, Amitabh Bachchan hasn’t charged a penny for his part.

Says Sr Bachchan, “Baz Luhrmann was in India and he called my office. He had an artiste with him who wanted to gift me some paintings. We chatted in our office and at that time we did not really discuss any film project. After almost a year and half, Baz called me again and said that there was a small role which he wanted me to do. I decided to be a part of the film just as a small gesture.”

Though staying gaurded about his role in the upcoming flick, Big B says a little. He says, “I still do not have the liberty to talk of the film in a personal capacity. Contracts bind me, but this I can say that it was a sheer delight to work with someone of such great genius as Baz Luhrmann and a host of co-stars that have astronomical presence in the world of cinema – Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire and the other greats.”

‘The Great Gatsby’ will marks Amitabh Bachchan’s first appearance in the Hollywood industry. Earlier, the megastar was signed for a role in director Mira Nair’s Hollywood film Shantaram, headlined by Johnny Depp. However, due to unknown reasons, the film was shelved.
