Hindi cinema’s legend – Yash Chopra is no more

The epitome of Romance, veteran filmmaker Yash Chopra passed away on Sunday, 21 Oct, following a multiple organ failure, at Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai. He was aged 80 years. The last rites of the deceased filmmaker will be performed today, Monday, October 22, at the Vile Parle crematorium, near Pawan Hans Helicopter company’s office, in south Mumbai.

Having being infected with dengue fever, he was admitted to Lilavati hospital last week. Doctors did say his condition was improving and that he would be discharged soon. However, few days ago, Chopra was shifted to the ICU, where he then succumbed to multiple organ failure and was pronounced dead.

On his birthday, 27 Sept, Chopra had announced his retirement from directing. The filmmaker was looking forward to the release of his upcoming romantic movie ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ which stars Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in the lead. It is set to release on November 13.

Reports had it that, Chopra had to cancel his trip to the Swiss Alps, for the filming of the last song in JTHJ, following his illness.

The entire film industry is deeply shocked and grieved by the legends death. Several stars rushed to the hospital and even the Yash Raj studios to pay their last respects to him, among which there were super stars such as Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan.

Others spotted were Priyanka Chopra, Gauri Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Urmila Matondkar, Sanjay Kapoor, Jimmy Shergill, Ramesh Sippy, Dimple Kapadia, Prasoon Joshi, Saira Banu, Anil Kapoor, Parmeet Sethi and Poonam Dhillon.

Shahrukh Khan wrote on Twitter: “Whenever my loved ones depart…ı feel a part of me extinguishes itself with them. Will there come a day….. .that I will no longer have a bit of myself to let go of? And then the thought follows…that every time they have taken some of me….. with them onto theır last journey , I have found a fragment of them left inside me too…I will always have some love to give…. and I will always be both emptied and replenished by the loved ones I lose. I keep u wıth me Yashjı and I mıss u too Yashjı…lots.”

Dilip Kumar posted: “Shattering, hard to accept. Yash was more than a friend, a brother. I am numb and have no words to express my grief.”

Yash Chopra is survived by wife Pamela and two sons, filmmaker Aditya Chopra and actor-producer Uday Chopra.
