Actress Sridevi makes a comeback after 15 years. Come Friday, her latest film English Vinglish is set to hit theaters with a bang. The actress’s performance in the film has already received a thumbs up by those who have watched it, at special premiers. The 49-year-old stunning diva says she is very happy with the fact that she can select her own roles now and that she will continue acting.
“Absolutely, I would continue to work if the script is good….it all depends on how people react to this film. I am glad I am in a position to do whatever is comfortable for me. I am glad I am in a position to select scripts,” Sridevi said, in an interview.
Though staying away from films for 15 years, Sridevi did not miss the industry. She was last seen in ‘Judaai’.
“I was happy being on the other side of the camera, enjoying myself and watching shootings. At the same time I was never away from the industry, I was with my children.”
The actress also feels that today’s audiences are not the same as they were way back in the 80’s and early 90’s. “It is a good thing that we (the film) are coming at this good time when people like to see something different,” she said.
So what made Sridevi take up such a film?
Well, she was instantly attracted to the films script. She says, “If had got this movie five or ten years ago, I would have (still) done it. I felt as woman, wife, mother I could relate to the character, I liked its simplicity and the subject of the film. I wouldn’t have had this (comeback) if this script had not come to me. It all just happened.
“He (husband Boney Kapoor) wanted to produce a film (for me). I heard the subject but nothing excited me where I could leave my children, house and family and be there in the studios.”
English Vinglish hits theaters tomorrow, i.e. 5 October.
