The best low budget films of 2012!

The Indian film industry isn’t just about big banner releases. Spending a lot of cash on a film, doesn’t necessarily make it a good film. This has been proved time and again with some recent small budget films, doing exceptionally well at the box office. So, here’s our list of movies that have been made in a limited budget, but have managed to give big budget movies a run for their money.

1. Kahaani

Made on a very low budget of Rs. 8 crore, ‘Kahaani’ went on to collect a whopping 78 crores at the box office. Brilliantly directed by Sujay Ghosh and an awesome performance by Vidya Balan, ‘Kahaani’ is an intelligent thriller which explores themes of feminism and motherhood in a predominantly male-dominated Indian society.


2. Paan Singh Tomar
Director Tigmanshu Dhulia joined hands with Irrfan Khan once again for the super hit ‘Paan Singh Tomar’. Made on a budget of a little over Rs. 5 crore, the movie turned into a profit within the first week. The film succeed because of it’s reviews and mouth marketing.


3. Vicky Donor
Vicky Donor was John Abraham’s debut venture as a producer. He struck gold with his first film. Made on shoestring budget the film went on to collect 46 crores making it one of the most successful films of 2012. The movie’s success was purely because of the wonderful acting performance by Ayushmann Khurrana and Yami Gautam.


4. Gangs Of Wasseypur
Made on a budget of 9.2 crores Gangs Of Wasseypur was one of the most critically acclaimed film of 2012 as it went on to collect 28 crores at the box office. Produced by Anurag Kashyap, the story revolves around a son who seeks vengeance when his father is killed by a coal mine owner.
