Remembering the yesteryear actresses.. Old is truly Gold!

Mumtaz, aged 65, is one of Bollywood’s top most actresses in the period 1969-76. She is best remembered for her roles in Khilona (1970), Tere Mere Sapne (1971), and for her 8 films opposite Rajesh Khanna. The actress is learned to have successfully battled cancer.

Waheeda Rehman, aged 76, is one of the most prominent actresses of the golden era. Best known for her roles in C.I.D, Reshma Aur Shera, Guide, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam and Chaudhvin Ka Chand, the actress has been honored with awards like Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, besides winning national awards and filmfare awards.

Vyjayanthimala aged 76, is also known as “Numero Uno actress” for her illustrious career in 1950s and 1960s. She’s not just an actor but a dancer, carnatic singer, dance choreographer, golfer and a Parliamentarian. She was the one who paved way for other South Indian actresses to venture into Bollywood.

Hema Malini aged 63, like Vyjayanthimala, is an actress, director and producer, Bharatanatyam dancer-choreographer, as well as a politician. She is best known for her film Seeta Aur Geeta and Sholay. She has been nominated 11 times for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. She was initially promoted as “Dream Girl”, and in 1977 starred in a film of the same name.

Nutan, one of the prominent figures of the black and white era, had appeared in more than 70 Hindi films in her career. She died in the year 1991 battling with cancer. She was honored with Filmfare best actress award 6 times. She was also awarded with the Padma Shri by the govt of India.

Madhubala was one of the most influential and talented Bollywood actresses, best known for her films Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi and Mughal E Azam. She died in the year 1969 after prolonged illness. She was said to be bone with a hole in her heart. Not just in Bollywood, but in Hollywood too Madhubala was a famous figure. She appeared in many American magazines, one of them featuring her in an extensive article with a full page photo. The piece was entitled: The Biggest Star in the World (And She’s Not in Beverly Hills).
