Bollywood’s first superstar Rajesh Khanna passed away this morning battling with prolonged illness, in his residence in Mumbai. He was aged 69. He is survived by Dimple Kapadia and daughters Twinkle and Rinke.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, family sources said.
The past few months saw the actor frequently being admitted to hospital. In the month of April, Kaka, as he was popularly known, was admitted to hospital due to weakness and fatigue, but was discharged quickly. In the month of June, he was yet again rushed to Lilavati Hospital complaining of weakness and was treated for two weeks.
Rajesh Khanna, whose romantic persona in songs like ‘Mere sapno ki raani’, ‘O mere dil ke chain’ and ‘Roop tera mastana’ made many a young woman’s heart skip a beat, was Hindi film world’s first actor to attain superstar status.
He was last seen in a TV commercial for Havells fans earlier this year.

He was an actor, nothing else. In real life he ws a human being just like everyone else. He commited adultery, he divorced his wife, etc What values he portrayed as an Indian. Amitabh, Hema, producers, directors, the Khans, etc all hated him, becuz of his attitude and demeanour. They were so happy to see him “tumble”. He had to depend on his son-in-law to live. What contributions have he made to society? RIP man.

Sorry to hear but I wouldn’t call him Bollywood’s first superstar. I think that title belongs to Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor & Dev Anand. Bollywood didn’t begin in the 1960s. There is an entire “super star” generation that people have forgotten.
