Madhuri Dixit as Indira Gandhi

The Dhak-Dhak girl, the dancing diva Madhuri Dixit is up for yet another comeback with a more intense and a seriouse film. She will be playing the role of Indira Gandhi in a biopic in director Krishna Shah’s forthcoming film MOTHER.

The film was announced in Los Angeles on 19th November. It is also rumored that Hollywood biggies like Tom Hanks, Tommy Lee Jones are being approached for the film for roles of Richard Nixon, Lyndon Johnson. From Bollywood we’ll probably have Abhay Deol to play Rajiv Gandhi, Dharmendra to play Motilal Nehru and Nana Patekar to play Jayprakash Narayan.

Confirming the news, India born US-based Krishna Shah says, “I had met Indira Gandhi twice and had been following her career. I was impressed by the way she had touched millions of lives. I started contemplating with the idea: will the future generation ever know that there was a woman who made a difference to millions? This made me realise that I must make a film on her.”

As part of his research spread over two decades, Shah read books on Gandhi, conducted interviews with politicians, journalists, bureaucrats, writers, military officials and her contemporaries.

Sounds like a good concept! Lets see if Madhuri fits the bill!
