India Canada

Its raining honors for Akshay Kumar, after being conferred the Katana – a Japanese sword endowed to the grandmaster of martial arts. The sixth degree Karate black belt champion Akshay Kumar is the sole Indian celeb to endorses sports so well and therefore has been chosen to be India’s torch bearer for Olympics 2010.

Yesterday Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper did the honours at a ceremony held in Mumbai. Akshay is the only actor on the list of prominent torchbearers from across the world who have been honoured with the prestigious position.

“Representing my country at this event is a life time honor. The Olympics is one of the greatest sporting events in the world. Bringing nations together, which even the greatest statesmen find it difficult to do. Sports unites us all,” said Akshay.

“Mahatma Gandhi saw the flame as a symbolic gesture of equality and liberation of Human Rights. I too see the torch as a symbol of freedom, peace and hope around the world,” he added.

Congrats Akki!

He’s NOT even an athlete!!! Why him? It’s sad that they couldn’t even pick an nice athlete to represent India. Akshay represents booty shakin’ dance moves and sarcastic one liners…which is all he’s good for. :D

Right on, Basket Case, in all honsty I am still wondering why they award him.

soo pple are wonderin why they choose him…well…in Canada, akki is well known and has a great reputation…and no one here knows abt athletes of india…sooo since he is famous ovr in canada…and also in india, they choose him…now pple in India kind of find it weird that they chose him cuz they feel that it should be an indian athlete…and in canada they dnt think like that… if it was some athlete frm india representin..then no one would be bothered to see who the athlete is..soo thats why akki makes both india and canada proud…sooo if it was an athlete in india, only india would kno abt the athlete dude and not canadians…and akki reperesents india very well here in canada…sooo pple who consider him as not being important are mistaken or dnt kno wot ther talkin abt :P
peace cuz its just the different environmental aspects:P
