Following her trip to Tinsel Town and the release of ‘Pink Panther 2′, Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan is back in Bollywood with a heavy duty call sheet in hand. The actress, who was recently felicitated with the prestigious Padma Shri award in Delhi, is set to resume shooting in Mumbai for Vipul Shah’s ‘Action Replay’.

From the past to the future, Ash’s next project is S. Shankar’s flamboyant ‘Endhiran’ with superstar Rajnikanth. The movie is being shot in exotic locales and is going to be loaded with sci-fi special effects. Ash’s being paid a cool Rs 6 crores for the film, making her the highest paid actress in India. As of now she’s also signed on for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next production with Hrithik Roshan. Aishwarya Rai has refuted rumours that she was to play the female lead opposite her husband Abhishek Bachchan in Ashutosh Gowariker’s next “Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se”.

The actress says that the director knew about her packed scheduled and the discussion never took place.
Recent media reports suggested that Aishwarya was to play the lead role before Asin was finalised for the film opposite actor Abhishek. But both – the actress and filmmaker – deny it.

“I don’t have the dates right now as my schedule diary is super packed. This film (‘Khelein Hum…’) starts next month. So there never was that possibility,” Aishwarya, who played Rajput princess Jodhabai in Gowariker’s historical epic “Jodhaa Akbar”, told IANS.

“And since Ashu (Ashutosh Gowariker) is a close friend and his main lead is my husband, they obviously knew it. So the discussion didn’t even arise,” she added. Gowariker confirmed it saying: “I had not approached her (Aishwarya) for ‘Khelein Hum…’. Aishwarya, for me, belongs to a fairytale. She is a quintessential princess and by far one of the finest actresses we have.

“But we need to plan things in advance. She is extremely professional and hence I would never like to upset her schedules in any way. I’m very happy with the coming together of Abhishek and Asin.” “Khelein Hum…” will feature Abhishek as freedom fighter Surya Sen, who was the chief architect of anti-British freedom movement in Chittagong, now in Bangladesh.

This will be Gowariker’s second period film after “Lagaan”.

A filmi story took on a real life turn when 4 women, inspired by an Aishwarya Rai character, took to stealing and became bandit queens. They would spend their days as perfect wives and mothers – cooking cleaning and playing with their children – but when the sun had set, they would come out to play by themselves. The leader was Geeta and they were a gang of women thieves, inspired, they say, by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s role as Sunehri in Dhoom 2.

The women who included Geeta (30), Kela (32), Sheela (20) and Ompati (40) raided warehouses and in particular stole batteries which they could pass on easily for cash. “They had a bias for battery cells,” says Inspector Raj Kumar of the Delhi police, “They would pick up boxes that contained at least 50 batteries each and sell them to a junk dealer. On an average, the gang made Rs 1 lakh a day – that is, Rs 20,000 each. We are yet to find out how many robberies they have committed.”

But the story is not as straightforward as it looks at first sight. Coming from the Sansi tribe, on the fringe of society with little opportunity for jobs or access to social care, the women were trapped inside miserable lives with husbands who were alcoholics or drug addicts. Faced with the choice of steadily decaying lives or giving themselves a chance for escape, they understandably chose the latter. “To survive and feed their families, they first worked as ragpickers and also committed some petty thefts,” explains DCP Aggarwal, “Then Geeta met a woman who motivated them to commit bigger crimes and gave them the example of Dhoom-2 in which a woman thief takes advantage of her gender.”
