India’s best musician today – AR Rahman has got himself a Golden Globe Nomination for Best Original Score.

AR Rahman is a truly gifted musician and has many Indian and international awards to his credit. He has won “the Mauritius National Award and the Malaysian Award for contributions to music. He was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for his first West-End production. A four time National Award winner and conferred the Padma Shri from the Government of India, Rahman has received six awards for Best Music at the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and eleven awards for his scores at the Filmfare and Filmfare Awards South each.”

We wish him luck for the Golden Globes… this would be definitely the largest feather in his already crowded cap!

I am really amazed how AR Rehman is considered a genius music director. Give me a break!!!
Honestly, he has only very few compositions that are really beautiful like the one in film ROJA – “dil hai chotasa, chotisi asha” or the songs from film Taal and a few more films of the past. Now-a-days his compositions all stinks AR Rehman from the start to the end and talk about his originality- all his songs have “doom tanana, doom tanana” kind of stupid addition, what to say – you know what I mean. In any film if there are six songs given music by Rehman, two songs will be nice to hear and the four will be equally hopeless. The real genius was R.D Burman whether it was his ‘raina beet jaye” from Amarprem or “dum maro dum” from Hare Ram Hare Krishna. Look at the versatility. A.R Rehman is a fluff. But what can you do, with time Bollywood quality is going to the dogs anyway.
What can you say when ugly women (a-la Bipasha Basu) are top heroines and jokers like Shas Ruklh Khan are top heros.

WOW, comment 7 was bloody long(and crap!).
I dont agree at all, rahman is a genius, like it or not, id like to see you compose a song of rahman standard, and then give a lecture of how trash he is!
BTW if you think bips is ugly, get ure eyes tested, and SRK is king for a reason. SO LIVE WITH IT!

The article mentions that ARR is India’s best musician today. He is, indeed, the best music director in India today. Comment #7 talks about the greatness of RDB. Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Agreed RDB is great but he is not the greatest. You should listen to Ilayaraja to really understand what genius means. The man has more than 900 movies to his credit – majority of his songs are hits. His non-filmy works like “How to name it?” and “Nothing but wind” are simply mind-blowing. But where he really stands head and shoulder above the rest is his background score. He infuses life to a scene with his music, something that you don’t feel that much in others’ work. It is a shame that this genius never really got the recognition he deserves. At least, ARR, the best in today’s business, is getting some recognition and we should be happy about that.
