Akshay Kumar is the uncrowned Kinng of Bollywood in the true sense. The man has given many back to back hits and is good with every genre of movies. He can be the ‘Khiladi’ action hero, the crazy comedian and the archetypal romantic hero. Whats good is that the actor loves to break moulds and experiment with new characters and new roles.
Now he is all geared up for his forthcoming film Singh is Kinng. The Sikh community may have objections over his improper turban or his French beard but the Akshay is a true Sardar in spirit. He is Bollywood’s first leading man to be playing a Sardar.
“I wanted to play a Sikh who can stamp his love on people’s mind. I got the title for the film from the back end of a truck so in a way you can say that people of India gave me the story,” says Akshay.
Bollywood’s leading men have shied away from the roles of Sardars because of the pagdi and the beard would not help him look good in the conventional chocolate-boy way. But Akshay dared to break the conventions. He did not have the inhibitions that the other leading men had.
“The second I wore my pagdi, I felt like a king. The honour and the pride that seeped through my veins turned me into a Sardar. It was an honour to wear the turban. Even though I did have slight difficulty in rescuing my heroine, KK (Katrina Kaif) while wearing a pagdi but aside from that I thoroughly enjoyed it,” he adds.
And seems like Akshay has the perfect recipe for being the King that he is. He says,
“Anyone who can put others happiness before his own, someone who can give joy without demanding anything in return and someone who can pick up others even when they maybe falling themselves is worthy of being a king. All it really takes is a good positive attitude to make you a king.”
Akki is truly the King of Bollywood.
