Ranbir Kapoor bags Yash Raj Films

ranbir.jpgIt always helps to be a star kid. Ranbir Kapoor, Netu Singh and Rishi Kapoor’s son, gets a head start with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Saawariya’. The big offers do not end with that- Ranbir has signed a movie under Yash Raj Films- an offer many stars still struggle to get. Sidharth Anand, whose “Tara Rum Pum” did quite well, takes the star kid’s career ahead with YRF. Before the kid goes on floor to display his talents, he is already in the loop of the Big Bollywood. Well, big banners can give initial big movies for star kids but to prove themselves is altogether a new game. Let us see how the Kapoor son works his way out.

Priyanka Chopra gets a whooping deal with UTV

If people still continues to say Bollywood can have only men Superstars then perhaps we should take a pause and think about that Priyanka has achieved. Considered one of the most reliable of the stars Priyanka has signed a unique mega project with UTV. UTV has signed her for a three-film non-exclusive deal that will be for 4 years. The major aspect of this deal will be Priyanka’s involvement in the creative areas of film making- choosing scripts, brainstorming about genres etc. This will determine Priyanka’s strong hold in the film industry. Announcing the deal, Mr. Ram Mirchandani, Senior VP-Creative and Projects, UTV Motion Pictures said, “We are very proud to be associated with Priyanka. Her achievements, in a relatively short span of time, are remarkable. Priyanka is today recognized as one of the most ‘bankable’ stars that we have. Her ability to straddle a variety of roles is reflective of her immense talent. We are very excited about this partnership and look forward to our long-term relationship with Priyanka.”

Our lady is no less excited: “The basis of our relationship is that of mutual respect and creativity. This association presents an amazing opportunity for me to work in a challenging, creative environment with some of the best minds in the industry. I am looking forward to creating celluloid magic together!”

The deal also allows Priyanka to sign films outside UTV. And she has made sure the amount is also humongous- 2 crore. Wow girl…great going. I wish many yester year heroines should have got such offers. Never mind –better late than never!

Life in a Metro…proves beyond Shilpa Shetty

Anurag Basu is a happy man. His Life in a Metro…did extremely well both in India and UK. But apparently the credit has gone to Shilpa Shetty who has become an international star with UK’s Big Brother. At last something of honor has come to Basu that his movie could stand by itself without the Shetty fame.

Basu’s Metro will now be among the chosen gallery of Oscars. Oscar Library has asked for Basu’s Metro-screenplay to be kept for reference. “Life in a Metro , whose script too has been written by Basu, has been invited by the Motion Picture Academy’s prestigious Margaret Herrick Library to be part of its sprawling script collection,” a release from producers UTV said. ‘The library has collections of more than 32,000 books, 1,800 periodical titles, 60,000 screenplays, lobby cards, over 8 million photographs, more than 300 manuscript and other special collections relating to prominent industry individuals, studios and organisations, music scores and sound recordings, production and costume sketches, artifacts and oral histories.’ So if not Oscar awards then it is Oscar library for us!

ShahRukh Khan twosome in Om Shanti Om

Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om looks like a film that will remind us of movies in the 70s. So here is something more on the same lines. SRK, who plays a struggling actor, will have two births in the movie. Do not raise your eyebrow skeptically- SRK has two roles in the movie- Om and Om. SRK initially plays ‘a junior artist from 70s who is bumped off by a jealous hero (Arjun Rampal)’ and then he comes back to become a great star and also to take revenge on Arjun. Again, Farah strikes the chord with Ghai’s film ‘Karz’…strange thing is she also has Ghai directing SRK for ‘Karz’. Well this is going to be some strange film! That reminds me of SRK in Duplicate- the twosome ShahRukh Khan which went unnoticed except for the special effects. Here’s the poster if you remember:
