Kay Kay Menon at his ever best

You’ve seen him as a power-struck son ready to kill his father in “Sarkar”, as an interesting college friend in “Main Meri Patni Aur Who”, as the troubled inspector in “Black Friday” and as a just married man who lets his inhibitions down with a crazy dance numbering “Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd”. If you think Kay Kay Menon’s list of variety is going to end somewhere then I guess you will have to wait and see what is he put to next. Kay Kay is all set to play a fully-filmy role in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s next production.

wallpaper-kk.jpg

“I’ve heard the basic narration of Dhulia’s film. I like the character’s filmi quality. He’s flamboyant, opportunistic and slightly evil; quite larger than life. Though in one of my earliest flicks – Hansal Mehta’s ‘Chhal’ – I played a ‘Mission Impossible’ kind of spy with loads of stunts to perform, Tigmanshu’s film will be my first really big somersault into the commercial language. I think I can swing it,” said the actor while while speaking to IANS. He rose to fame as the “thinking woman’s sex-symbol” with “Corporate” and now he plays his role in “Metro” with Shilpa Shetty and Kangana Ranaut. The actor is now pretty comfortable with the rules of Bollywood. “My first film – Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Paanch’ – never got released. I learnt to just do my work to the best of my abilities and then move on. You can’t be hanging on to a project after your job (namely acting) is done. In that sense, I’ve become more practical. By now the industry is aware of my abilities. There’s no need to hard sell myself. The filmmakers who need me will come to me. I’d rather focus my energies on doing the films I believe in,” the actor added.

Mira Nair for her next

mira.jpgAs her Namesake shoots to fame among the most sought after in Bollywood at its premiere, she prepares for her next 12 min film on AIDS. Mira talks about her casting decisions for The Migration, “Initially the cast was meant to be Saif Ali Khan and Shiney Ahuja. But Shiney always wanted to play Saif’s character. So when Saif stepped out, Shiney happily stepped into the role he wanted.” Shiney plays plays a villager and not a gangster at last. But it is Irrfan Khan who has the guts to take up the most interesting character in the movie. “Playing a gay character is still quite a challenge for Indian actors. Even my buddy Randeep Hooda, who did his first film Monsoon Wedding with me, refused the role. But, Irrfan took on the role headlong. He has an extremely challenging part in The Migration. His fearlessness as an actor reflects in his selection of roles. The Migration is not a sweeping-under-the-carpet kind of love story. It shows an intense love between two men. And Irrfan didn’t hesitate to take up the challenge,” adds Mira. Sure he is a gem of an actor! AS part of the same campaign Santosh Sivan and Vishal Bharadwaj are also almost ready with their movies about AIDS. The Migration mmight see the day’s light with Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Jodha-Akbar.

Sanjay Dutt for a Koffee With Karan

Are you a fan of Sanjay Dutt and have been very eager to find out how his life had turned out to be after all the hardships and speculations about his personal life? Then you should catch the episode of Koffee with Karan this Sunday night on Star One and Star World. Sanjay Dutt, Priya Dutt and daughter Trishala come together to talk about Sanju Baba and their life with him. Take a sneak peak at the conversation:

karankoffee.jpg

Karan: The kind of life you’ve had, I think books are written on such lives. What do you have to say about what you’ve been through?

Sanjay: Karan, I don’t regret anything! All I can say is that losing my parents, quitting drugs, going to prison, if I sit and sulk about it I wont be moving on in life. So you should keep it at the back and you should learn from it.

Karan: All the years you spent in jail, the very thought is scary. Even spending one day in jail personally scares the living daylights out of me. How many months were you in jail?

Sanjay: 18 months.

Karan: When you look back at that 18-month phase, what is the one thing you learnt out of that experience which you can share with us?

Sanjay: Karan, it’s just to be humble. It humbles you down and makes you realize how important freedom can be, which all of us take for granted. You know, freedom is taken for granted. When it’s taken away, you realize how important it can be. I think God had a plan to send me there and to just humble me down, cool me off and that’s what’s happened exactly.

Karan: Did you need that cooling off?

Sanjay: At that time, it didn’t feel like I did. But now when I look back, it has made me a humble person.

Karan: Did you feel answerable to people? Did you feel you were being judged on certain occasions?

Sanjay: Absolutely! I felt I’m being judged. And I have to answer and have to clear my name and the name of the family.

Karan: Is there a love? Is there ‘one love’ of Sanjay Dutt’s life he’s never gotten over?

Sanjay: One love of Sanjay Dutt’s life! (Laughs) I’ve had a turbulent past with the loves in my life.

Karan: When you look back, you just savor every relationship but you don’t feel that you fell in love that one time and maybe nothing came out of it.

Sanjay: The problem with me is that I fall in love all the time.

Karan: You fall in love far too often?

Sanjay: Far too often!

Karan: Are you in love today?

Sanjay: No.

Karan: No? So all these rumors about your alleged marriage are all…

Sanjay: All rubbish! I came on TV and denied it also. There’s no marriage. We’re just friends.

Karan: When you look back at all these 13-14 years, what has your reflection been to all this?

Priya: I think we’ve come out of it pretty strong. My father always used to tell us it will pass. What we’re going through will pass. There’s always light at the end of the tunnel. You have to fight. You have to face whatever you have to. I think that’s what our resilience is. There are times when we feel everything is going so well in the family, what’s going to happen next. You know there’s a calm before the storm. We’ve got so used to that!

Karan: Though you’re his younger sister, there are times that you must have wanted to plank him on his head and ask what are you doing! There are times you want to beat him up?

Priya: Yeah, there are times! I think there are times I lose my cool and you know. I think now, that whole age difference doesn’t exist. I think all of us have always been very protective about him.

Karan: That’s the vibe he generates in the industry as well. That’s why he is called Sanju Baba!

Priya: Yeah, I guess so! Everyone who knows him is protective about him.
