Just a couple of days back we heard Rang De Basanti is selected as an official entry to the Oscars in the Foreign Film Category. And now we hear Vidhu Vinod Chopra has decided to send ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ as an independent entry for the Oscars. But instead of competing in the Foreign Film Category, it will compete in the General category.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra has said that his production house has taken this decision after seeing the rushes and tremendous response received by ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ all across the world.

But we doubt whether that is possible because such a practice will annoy the Film Federation of India (FFI) that officially selects India’s entry to the Oscars. Will FFI allow Lage Raho Munnabhai to be sent independently or will it create problems for Munna and Gandhi to go the Oscars remains to be seen. Hmmm… we advice Vidhu Vinod Chopra to send flowers and bouquets to the board, to make them agree to your demands, what say Munna ???

We don’t know whether the movie will be approved to be sent in that category, but we wish all the best to Lage Raho Munnabhai and Rang De Basanti team.

Filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor and his actress wife Suchitra Krishnamurthy (of Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa and My Wife’s Murder fame) have finally decided to end their marriage after a troubled period.

The couple was married for 8 years and have a six year old daughter ‘Kaveri’. They have filed for divorce, by mutual consent , but it may take some time for the divorce to come through.

Shekhar and Suchitra stayed apart for most of the time, bacause Shekhar was busy in London for his hollywood assignments and Suchitra preferred to stay back in India. Maybe maintaining a long distance relationship was getting difficult for them, considering their busy careers.

Don’t know why but all our sympathies are with Suchitra. We wish her all the best and hope that she puts the past behind her and starts life afresh again.

The new singing sensation in Bollywood, who is criticed for his nasal voice, is the star to watch out for… Yup guys, we are talking about Himmesh Reshammiya, the dude with his signature cap and beard.

However much you criticise him, you cannot take away the fact that the guy has become a phenomenon worldwide, among Indian audiences. And we feel there is some divine touch to his songs. Just sometime back we heard stories of how the song ‘Jhalak Dikhlaja’ was attracting ghosts in a certain village. Don’t know whether those stories were true or not, but here is the latest dope on Reshammiya.

Apparently, when Reshammiya went to Chicago for his shows, a middle aged couple came upto him and told that their mentally-challenged son, who usually does not respond to anything, has started responding to Himmesh’s songs. Touchwood ! We guess his songs have that magical touch to them.

And we got this bit of news from Sonia Kapoor, a T.V actress, who was accompanying Himmesh on his concert in the U.S. She says she was really moved by this incident. She says, “It was so touching to see the happy parents of the boy; it almost got me into tears”.

We are touched too. Are the Udit Narayans and Sonu Nigams of this world listening ???

After giving a mind-blowing performance in Fanaa, the very talented Kajol is all set to play Sita in a forthcoming film. The film is apparently, Raj Kumar Santoshi’s magnum opus Ramayan. And guess who plays Ram. It’s none other than Kajol’s hubby dearest Ajay Devgan.

Ajay has always been Santoshi’s favourite and acted in several of his films like Khakee, The Legend of Bhagat Singh and Lajja.

Santoshi had signed on Ajay Devgan long back and was on the lookout for the right actress to play his Sita. But Santoshi couldn’t find a better actress to bring out the intensity and warmth of Sita. The film is budgeted at Rs.90 crores and Santoshi is playing safe by signing on Kajol after the success of Fanaa.

But we still think, there is a huge risk in investing so much on a subject like this, and if the film doesn’t work Santoshi will suffer huge losses. Just for his sake, we wish this flick works and sets the cash registers ringing at the box office.

Looks like the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy in India is giving jitters to many big fim producers in Bollywood. And that includes Ritesh Sidhwani, the producer of Shahrukh Khan starrer Don – The Chase Begins…again.

Cricket is treated like a religion in India, and the release dates of many big fims will have to be reconsidered because Champions Trophy is the second largest Cricket tournament in the world. The fact that this tourney is gonna be played in India also adds to woes of the our film producers.

Don is all set to be released on October 20th, and around the same time all the big teams will be playing some do-or-die matches. Already most of big Indian Television channels are making big plans and this will give more reasons for Ritesh and Farhan Akhtar to worry.

And to compete with Don, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar starrer Jaan-E-Mann is going to be released on the same day, but the movie will incur huge losses if anything goes wrong (it is supposedly made with a whooping Rs 35crore). No wonder Sajid Nadiadwala wouldn’t want to loose money around Diwali.
Unfortunately, Tanuja Chandra’s Sushmita Sen starrer Zindagi Rocks will not see any huge affect on the movie. Even one of the larger production houses, Rajashri Productions has safely set the release date of Vivah in November. And Ramgopal Varma isn’t even considering the release of Nishabdh soon.

But if by any means, ICC Champions Trophy, Don and Jaan-E-Mann click well, then all the Indians will have a dhamak-e-daar Diwali (Keep your finger crossed)

But going by the present situation (and history as well), one strongly feels that Ritesh is going to postpone his release date. What say guys, should the producers play safe or do you think Shahrukh and Salman still have the magic?

Being the perfectionist that he is, it is not easy to please Aamir Khan. The guy has got an impeccable taste and a keen eye for observing things. And if he praises something, then it must truly deserve it. The latest movie to catch Aamir’s fancy is none other than ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’, a film about a good-hearted goon and his tryst with Gandhiji.

According to Aamir, Munnabhai is a great film. Though Rang De Basanti is selected as an official entry to Oscars this year, Aamir is humble enough to admit that if he was in the jury, it would have been difficult for him to make a selection between ‘Rang De Basanti’ and ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ as both are very good films. We totally agree with you Aamir…

Though he does not like to talk about his family, Aamir also told a little personal secret. He said that his son Junaid is usually not appreciative of his films, but he liked Rang De Basanti a lot. Whether Aamir wins an Oscar or not is another question, but he has surely managed to steal his son’s little heart with this film. Good work Aamir !!!

So far it has been a successful year for Bollywood in terms of hits. Our film industry has been churning out really good and entertaining movies in the form of Rang De Basanti, Krrish, Fanaa, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Omkara, Golmaal, Lage Raho Munnabhai and now the recent Dor.

But wait, there are many more biggies lined up for this winter, that may prove to be even more successful than all these movies. Starting from this friday, when Woh Lamhe releases, there is an interesting line-up of movies like Don, Jaan-e-Mann, Dhoom2, Umrao Jaan and Vivaah. So be ready to witness the clash of the titans this year. Salaam-e-ishq and Eklavya which were also scheduled to release in December are postponed to January. Thank God!

These are all big movies produced by big banners. But we cannot forget the small films that may turn out to be even bigger. We never know. Dor is a recent case in point that has got rave reviews and tremendous response all over.

And it’s not just about films. The competition for the best actor will be even more tougher, because almost all stars are having 1 or more major releases this year. Shahrukh has Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and Don in his kitty, Abhishek has Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Dhoom2 and Umrao Jaan, Aamir has 2 major blockbusters of this year – Fanaa and Rang De Basanti, Salman has Jaan-e-mann, Sanjay Dutt has Lage Raho Munnabhai, Saif has Omkara, Hrithik has Krrish and Dhoom2. Huh ! We are already exhausted.

So wait and watch, the game is not yet over…

If you are one of those who never seem to have enough of Emraan Hashmi’s onscreen kisses and love making scenes, here’s good news for you.

Emraan is going to indulge in all that hot stuff yet again in his forthcoming movie “Train”. And no, these are not just rumours, because this news has been confirmed by the maker of the film Raksha Mistry.

Here’s what she had to say, “His character in the film demands that Emraan Hashmi indulges in kisses with a lot of hot scenes for my film, So yes, audience would see him doing all that for the camera”.

Emraan’s co-stars in the movie are Geeta Basra (of Dil Diya Hai fame) and Miss India World 2004 Sayali Bhagat. We are not sure who gets to kiss Emraan in the movie and do all those hot scenes, but we wish both the girls get a fair share.

The on-screen pair of Shahrukh Khan and Juhi Chawla will be seen together once again after a looooooong gap (apart from Juhi’s miniscule role in Paheli). They worked in films like Darr, Yes Boss, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, Duplicate etc in the past. Shahrukh will be making a cameo in Ravi Chopra’s ‘Bhootnath’, that also stars Amitabh Bachchan. Shahrukh will be playing the role of Juhi’s husband in this flick. But we wonder what the film is all about, considering its unusual name. We just hope Shahrukh doesn’t play the title role and bore us to death with his Paheli-like antics.

Juhi was last seen in ‘Bas Ek Pal’, but this forthcoming flick will be something that we can look forward to, because it stars bigwigs like Amitabh and Shahrukh. But can Shahrukh and Juhi recreate the magic once again ??? Lets wait and watch …

Shahrukh Khan’s movies may do great business abroad and run to packed houses, but when it comes to getting nominated for Oscars, Aamir Khan takes the cake yet again. Way to go Aamir !!!

Earlier it was Aamir Khan’s Lagaan that got nominated for the best foreign film at the Oscars some time back. And now it is his cult-film Rang De Basanti that got selected for the Oscars, defeating other strong contenders.

Rang De Basanti, is a film about today’s carefree generation, which suddenly wakes up to the importance of responsibility and patriotism. The film won rave reviews everywhere and was appreciated by the masses and critics alike. We hope Rang De Basanti wins an award in any category and makes India proud.
