After Vishal Bharadwaj’s tryst with the works of Shakespeare, it is now Shekhar Kapoor who plans to make a film based on the bard’s works. Shekhar Kapur has decided to make a movie based on `Romeo and Juliet’ but with the usual bollywood twists. The movie will be set in times of acute water shortages.
Kapur, director of the Oscar-nominated “Elizabeth,” told that his take on the Shakespeare classic would be relevant to contemporary viewers because water shortages are on the rise.
But he didn’t reveal any details about how he would work the theme of water shortages into ‘Romeo and Juliet’, but said he tentatively plans to call the movie “Paani”. However, it is not yet clear whether the story would be set in the present day or the future, or whether the movie would be in English or Hindi.
Kapoor earlier made the much acclaimed ‘Elizabeth’ , ‘Bandit Queen’ and ‘Mr.India’.
